We were approached by a mid-sized international law firm, with whom we had successfully completed projects with in the past, to assist them with designing a virtual desktop infrastructure. The business requirements had been defined as being able to provide staff with the ability to work from anywhere with a focus on homeworking along with bring your own device (BYOD) capabilities. The business had already decided on the preferred software vendor based on their own experiences and expertise and we were engaged to design and implement the proof of concept infrastructure.
Having the vendor certification in house we were able to design the infrastructure with adherence to the vendors latest best-practice and we were able to leverage the advanced functionality of the software. Our tasks included producing the project plan, high and low level design documents and the scope of works. We then went through a process of client hardware certification and preparation to ensure it was both up to the job and ready to be used. Next we implemented proof of concept based on IBM hardware, VMware software, Windows 7 OS and Aerohive wireless networking technologies. We worked with the business to develop the test plans, collate the feedback from the user groups and produce documentation for the operational handover of the infrastructure. We also ran skills transfer sessions with IT staff and power users.Contact Us >>
The client, with our help, was able to successfully prove to the stakeholders that BYOD was an achievable goal which enabled mobility of staff, ease of use and positive ROI for the firm. Based on the success of the proof of concept project, BYOD was adopted as an IT initiative in the following year’s budget. Fully Meshed IT was recognized as the key enabler to the success of this project and was retained by the client to collaborate on future projects.
